About

The Friends of the Coalbrookdale Arboretum is a group of enthusiastic volunteers who are working to preserve the old landscaped garden behind the Darby Houses in Coalbrookdale, Shropshire.

We want the local community and visitors to Coalbrookdale to be able to enjoy this largely hidden beauty spot. In the last couple of years, with the help of volunteers and the Community Payback Team, we have cleared much undergrowth, stabilised paths and made new ones and rescued the National Damson Collection. With the help of the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund we were able to stage events such as pole lathing, an art day, bat walks, moth hunting and instigate an annual Damson Day fete.

There is so much more we want to do such as install signage, benches, and hand rails. To do tree surgery to bring more light to the fruit trees and so on. We need volunteers with expertise in fund raising, administering and running small groups, with web skills, or anyone who is willing to learn. There is also plenty of scope for hands-on gardening type work and we have work parties which can be a lot of fun.

Anyone can turn up at our monthly meetings and all are welcome. If you can give a lot, or a little it doesn’t matter.
